The Core Knowledge Reference Manual, Second Edition covers essential topics including combustion, heat transfer, construction, safety principles, and installation knowledge. It also addresses codes and regulations, instructions, venting, ventilation, and basic electrical concepts.

NFI’s updated exam format makes it easier and more cost-effective to earn multiple certifications by eliminating the overlap between the Woodburning, Gas, and Pellet certification programs.

To earn your first certification, you must pass both the Core Knowledge Exam (60 questions) and the fuel-type exam (40 questions) of your choice. Once certified, additional certifications only require passing the corresponding fuel-type exam.
